Harrison Ford responded in classic Harrison style.

As time approaches the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), more and more details are emerging. Fans have been treated to stills and promotional images, and, last week, the long-awaited trailer, which confirmed the appearance of Sallah (John Rhys-Davies), as well as the new villain, Voller ( Mads Mikkelsen). Along with all these details, however, comes more fan speculation: it can’t be helped, people like to try to predict ‘what’s next’ when it comes to movies, especially movies that like this.

One of the more prevalent rumors around Dial of Destiny revolves around the retirement of Doctor Jones (Harrison Ford) himself. Following his appearance at D23 where he declared, “This is it!”, many fans began to wonder: “Could this mean someone else will pick up the whip and hat? Will there be someone else Indiana Jones?”. It certainly seems possible, and despite Ford’s appearance on The Today Show, where he said, “When I’m gone, he’s gone!”, people still seem to think that this latest episode is a passing the torch to a new one Indy.

Recently, Direct reported on an appearance by Ford, where he politely, but firmly joined Director James Mangold in putting an end to those rumors. When a Deadline reporter asked if Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was a passing of the baton, Harrison did not leave any room for doubt.

After a brief pause, Harrison looked at the reporter, and replied:
“No, I’m just telling a story. Telling stories. You’ll see. You’ll see.”
Leaving, Ford added with a wink, “I hope you like it!”. Hopefully, this, along with James Mangold’s emphatic response on Twitter, will satisfy fans, and put to rest any rumors that Lucasfilm is planning to replace Ford as the famous Doctor Indiana Jones. If both the director and the man himself are to be believed, no one will be replacing the good doctor anytime soon.

This comes as a relief to diehard fans around the world, who have grown up with adventures like Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), after all, who else could fill those shoes as well as Harrison? While fans can rest easy that Harrison won’t be replaced, it’s the latter Indiana Jones movie for the star, and probably the last movie in the franchise. After the less than enthusiastic response to the previous entry, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), fans are hoping this film is a fitting sendoff.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hits theaters on June 30, 2023, and stars Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, Phoebe Waller Bridge as his daughter, Helena, John Rhys-Davies as Sallah, and Mads Mikkelsen as the villainous Voller.
