In Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny scheduled to come out next year, is Harrison Ford ready to hang up his hat after the fifth period of Indiana Jones franchise? A reporter caught up with him at the premiere of 1923a Western drama television series that he also stars in, to ask him that very question.
In the Lucasfilm production, Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays the role of Helena, the daughter of Indiana Jones. According to the Metro report, there is talk that he will lead the franchise moving forward. So, what did Harrison Ford say about that?
Rather than reveal any answers, the actor responded that he was “just trying to tell a story,” something fans will see in time.
The constant burning query is not new because last year, James Mangold, one of the directors of the sequel, was asked about the rumors of Indy giving the hat to Phoebe Waller-Bridge and if it was true or not. Was he able to disprove the whole notion?
As far as answers go, “Don’t believe the clickbait” seems to say that the rumors are false. But it’s also understandable that Mangold avoided giving a direct answer at the time.
But in another recent tweet, which was in response to rumors of Ford being replaced yet again, the director dispelled any doubts anyone had about Ford saying goodbye to the iconic role.
“Trolls will troll!” That’s absolutely right. It’s very easy to use social media to start a rumor. That’s how fun trolls are but are they right?
Mangold made that point in a second tweet when he made the point, “Even a blind squirrel finds a peanut now and then.” Harrison Ford doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Of course, fans haven’t seen anything new yet Indiana Jones movie since 2008. Unless this fifth installment opens up a new series of sequels, it could be years before they see a sixth installment.
But aside from official announcements and speculations, there is no denying that a killer of Indiana Jones fans will be happy if the English actress, who created Fleabag, took on the swashbuckling role. He made himself famous as a good screenwriter and a charming actor with great talent. What he brings to Indiana Jones is a sense of humor and an incredible presence that can sit alongside Harrison Ford in a scene and not disappear.
But diehard fans won’t be able to digest this twist easily if it comes at all. Their Indiana Jones is Harrison Ford and they are not ready to let go. The 80-year-old actor, whose films have grossed more than $9 billion worldwide, is the sole face of the franchise and carries a weight that will have to be seriously considered if the baton is passed to anyone else.
For now, Indiana Jones fans have the fifth to look forward to and they can do so without worrying if it’s the last time they’ll see Harrison Ford as the legendary adventurer.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is slated to hit theaters on June 30, 2023.
