Speed Bump Garage takes the barn to find a 1968 Ford Mustang GT from rags to riches after a year-long restoration process.
Find a barn classic cars are often some of the most unique and memorable experiences for any car enthusiast and this one is like no other. Kent at Speed Bump Garage and his friend Stewie stumble upon a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback that has been sitting idle for nearly two decades and take it home to restore it to its former glory.
While their YouTube channel hasn’t taken off yet, the original video of them finding and towing a Mustang out of its dusty slumber in its previous owners’ barn has become one of their most popular videos on the channel and it’s no wonder why as Ford The Mustang GT is a true classic American muscle car.
1968 Ford Mustang Fastback Parked For Decades
After a year-long restoration project, the Mustang arrives in Kent as Stewie needs room in his own garage for another restoration project. Kent took full advantage and took the Mustang out of the garage to see what it could do. During their restoration, the guys at Speed Bump Garage decided to bring the Mustang into the 21st century and fit a Bluetooth speaker to the sound system.
Immediately the key turned and we heard the roar of the engine of the reborn Mustang. The car is almost unrecognizable from the day they pulled it out of the barn until now after being fully detailed throughout.
Kent saved some original parts such as the carburetor and air filter in case they needed them later. But now, they use newer parts to make it run smoothly. We immediately noticed the Mustang’s sleek design and wheels after removing the layers of dirt and grime. To the surprise of many, they found almost no rust which is rare in this barn to find.
Kent was unsure of the engine’s displacement as it had a 428 on the intake. He speculates that it may be or a 390 cu-in engine. However, he had to take the machine to confirm.
Sitting inside, it’s clear how much work has gone into the restoration as the leather seats are pristine compared to before. It is often one of the first things to wear out on a car that has seen neglect for a long time. The interior looks good and Kent explains that he will replace the headliner soon. However, removing the windshield needs to happen first.
Getting The Barn Find 1968 Ford Mustang GT Back On The Road
After resting a bit and letting the 1969 Ford Mustang warm up, Kent mentioned that the brakes still needed some upgrades but decided it was time to show us what it could do and floor it. The engine roars and it runs no wonder what’s under the hood.
Kent and his son are all smiles and share a moment of laughter as he turns back the speed. The rolling shots of the Mustang driving across the local park really capture the beauty of such a timeless car and the original blue paint catches your eye from the moment you see it. Kent describes the car as a hot rod and praises the mechanics who built it.
