Premier Doug Ford says his best advice for getting through the holiday season is to get a flu shot.

Influenza, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19 are all spreading in Ontario and filling pediatric intensive care beds.

“Go out and get your flu shot,” Ford said Monday, when asked how to get through the season. “That’s the most important thing.”
Ontario doesn’t release data on flu vaccine use until the end of the season but before the pandemic it was around 30%.
“In 2020-21, utilization increased by more than 30%, but dropped again to around 30% for the 2021/22 season,” said a spokesperson for the Ontario Health Ministry.
Ontario offers a free flu vaccine to residents six months of age and older.

NDP Interim Leader Peter Tabuns and NDP Health Critic France Gelinas called on the Ford government Monday to bring back the Ontario Legislature to address the health care crisis, noting that the Ornge air ambulance reported a significant increase in patients under 18 years of age with more than 544. children brought between October 1 and December 2.
“Doug Ford should not have shut down the legislature when critically ill children are being flown across the province in search of an empty ICU bed,” Tabuns said in a statement. “It’s terrifying to have a sick child and not have a nearby hospital capable of helping, and it’s unthinkable to let this crisis go unaddressed by the government for weeks and months in the winter while the virus spreads. “
