The Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn announced its November sales results, reporting total US sales of 146,364 vehicles, a 7.8 percent decrease compared to November 2021, with only electric vehicles (EVs) showing growth in its segment.
“Strong order demand continues with overall retail orders for ’23 model year (MY) vehicles up 104 percent compared to a year ago, driven by Super Duty and Maverick,” said Andrew Frick, vice president of sales, distribution, and trucks at Ford Bughaw.
“Super Duty has garnered a record 152,000 total orders since order banks opened on October 27. By year’s end, the F-Series extended its lead to more than 117,000 trucks over its second-place competitor .”
Ford’s EV sales expanded at about twice the rate of the overall EV segment in November as Ford prepares to ramp up production next year to meet US demand. Sales were up 103 percent for the month compared to last year, making it America’s second best-selling brand and electric car maker behind Tesla.
As America’s best-selling electric truck in November, sales of the F-150 Lightning reached 2,062. Since its first sale at the end of May, sales of the F-150 Lightning have reached 13,258 trucks. The Ford E-Transit continues to lead the commercial EV industry with an 80 percent market share. During the month, Ford Pro sold 654 E-Transits and 5,811 year-to-date. Mustang Mach-E sales climbed 14.6 percent over last year to 3,539 sales. Worldwide production of the Mustang Mach-E now tops more than 150,000.
The truck segment as a whole for Ford saw sales of 81,210, a 1.2 percent decrease in total sales year-over-year and a 5 percent decrease in retail sales over the same period. SUVs took a bigger hit, with total sales down 15 percent to 61,889, which was also a 24.6 percent drop in retail sales year over year.
Ford continues to post record retail orders as demand grows for 2023MY vehicles. Retail orders are up 104 percent over the ’22MY vehicle from a year ago. Orders for the ’23MY vehicle reached 307,000. With one month left in the year, Ford’s retail share is up about 1 full percentage point in 2021.
Bronco SUV sales climbed 12.6 percent with 9,330 vehicles moved in November. Expedition sales increased 28.9 percent.
With just a month left in the year, the F-Series is on track to reclaim the truck crown in 2022. The F-Series extended its lead as America’s best-selling truck over its second-place competitor at 117,415 trucks until November.
Ford Transit sales increased by 127 percent to total sales of 10,345 vans. November also marked the opening of order banks for the new Transit Trail.
Maverick sales totaled 68,492 through November and were up 189 percent for the month compared to last year. More than 80 percent of Maverick’s competitive acquisitions come from outside the pickup segment. Total F-Series sales this month topped 55,000, climbing to 578,881 this year.
With improved inventory flow, Lincoln saw strong gains in sales of the Corsair – up 59.1 percent over last year – while the Navigator was up 20.2 percent. Lincoln had 74 percent of its retail sales coming from previously placed orders in November.
