What’s It Like to Drive Lightning in the Winter?
Thinking about going ahead and placing an order to buy that Ford Lightning for more than its MSRP? You might just want to reconsider that thought after discovering why it’s proving to be a frustrating winter disaster.
Right now, potential Ford F-150 Lightning owners are looking at prices well above MSRP and an expected long wait time…unless…unless some lucky truck buyer is found one that was recently relinquished by its original owner.
Wait! WHAT! Why would someone give up their desired EV truck? In short: Driving one in the dead of winter is like towing one in the summer—your EV battery will lose its range.
That’s the message in a recent one Hoovie’s garage YouTube channel episode where the host shows how much of a problem—if not a hassle to say the least—it is, owning a Ford Lighting during the winter. More specifically, EV range numbers drop by up to half in weather conditions that barely leave freezing temps.
Letting It Go
In this episode, Hoovie reveals one of the reasons why he is abandoning his Ford Lightning while he is doing a show and recounts actual road test conditions under (mild) winter conditions that you can expect to own it and why Ford’s winter recommendations are really not that helpful or impractical for EV truck owners.
Beyond the sad state of EV battery affairs, good news is on the horizon as Hoovie does a short show and talks about the new EV Hummer and why he believes GM’s entry into EV trucks with this seemingly ridiculous model are the gateway to GM’s better EV trucks that will not only be affordable—but are expected to outperform the current Ford Lighting.
That said, follow Hoovie as he demonstrates how low his Lightning’s road range is during a short drive and hear his opinion on what the EV Hummer might foretell about the future of EV trucks.
I SOLD my Ford Lightning EV because the WINTER battery performance was a DISASTER (Almost HALVED the range)
And finally…
