Fully electric, zero-emissions versions of your favorite truck are starting to hit the market. Two of the most famous names in pickups dominating the landscape are of course the F-150 and the Silverado and that rivalry is now moving into the EV world as well.
Ford jumped on the competition by bringing its F-150 Lightning to market first, but due to strong demand, there was limited availability. The Chevy Silverado EV is expected to be available in late 2023. Both trucks offer many variations with corresponding prices that cater to a wide range of needs. Here’s how these two all-electric pickups stack up in terms of their capabilities.

The F-150 Lightning is the most intelligent, innovative F-150 Ford has ever built. Ford has announced improvements to F-150 Lightning vehicles starting in the fall of 2022. The update includes an increase in its Standard Range Battery Model along with the addition of Pro Trailer Hitch Assist Technology. Vehicles built with the standard-range battery, available in Pro, XLT, and Lariat trims, will now have a 240-mile target range, up from 230 miles before.
F-150 Lightning customers can choose from two new colors recently added to the 10 available options: Avalanche Gray and Azure Gray Metallic Tri-Coat. The new colors replace Atlas Blue, Ice Blue Silver, and Smoked Quartz Metallic, which are no longer available.
Ford is also changing the MSRP for the F-150 Lightning for the first time since it was revealed in May 2021 and honored the MSRPs for all customer orders until recently. Due to significant increases in material costs and other factors, Ford adjusted the MSRP starting with the start of the next wave of orders for the F-150 Lightning.
Pricing for the F-150 Lightning depends on the options you choose but starts at $46,974 and can go up to $100,000. The F-150 has an EPA-estimated range of up to 320 miles, an acceleration of 0-60 Mph in the sub-four-second range, a max cargo weight of 1,982 pounds, and a towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds. The truck also has the largest front truck among electric pickups at 14.1 cubic feet of space.

The new Pro Special Service Vehicle package is now available for fleet customers with F-150 Lightning Pro models. The package includes heavy-duty, police-grade cloth front seats, integrated steel intrusion plates, and an available roof-mounted LED alert light.

Industry-first Pro Trailer Hitch Assist automatically controls steering, throttle, and brake inputs, making hooking up trailers even easier. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist is standard on the Tow Technology package, available on Pro, XLT, and Lariat trims, and standard on select Lariat trims and Platinum trims. After entering a few measurements into the system, the camera tracks your trailer’s location as you back up and provides guidance.
Rotate the knob left or right, and the system controls the steering wheel for you. The trailer brake controller automatically applies the trailer brakes when the brakes are applied. Adjust and control how much power is sent to the trailer brakes manually using the TBC (Trailer Brake Controller) mounted on the center console.
The Smart Hitch gives you peace of mind knowing that your trailer’s weight is properly distributed before setting off. The onboard scale uses advanced technology to estimate the approximate weight of your vehicle, so you know what you’re carrying is within the recommended weight capacity. A tow-activity screen will alert you if your trailer needs attention. A smart trailer tow connector can let you know if your brake or turn lamp is off. With Trailer Reverse Guidance, several high-resolution views tell you which direction to turn when backing up.

Silverado was designed from the ground up using the Ultium platform and Ultifi software, General Motors’ software platforms ushering in a new age of software-defined automotive experiences and services. The EV version of the Silverado will give customers a GM-estimated range of more than 400 miles per full charge. The Silverado boasts a peak output of 754 horsepower (wide-open watts), 0-60 Mph in 4.5 seconds (wide-open watts), and a peak output of 785 pound-feet of torque (wide-open watts).
The Ultium home accessory charging unit will allow you to transfer electricity between your Silverado EV and your home. The home charging unit from Ultium can enable power transfer between the Silverado Electric Vehicle and your home. This can allow for energy savings and the potential to sell additional power back to the grid with participating utility companies. With Level 2 charging available (professional installation required), you’ll have the ultimate home charge to suit your routine and driving needs. Level 1 charging is still available and serves as a backup option if needed.
The myChevrolet Mobile app will allow Silverado owners to check battery status, configure charging reminders, or make payments — all from their smartphone. The app can also help you plan routes by providing real-time information about compatible public charging stations and locations. DC’s public charging stations can deliver up to 100 miles of estimated range in just 10 minutes.
The Silverado EV will offer up to 14 camera views, and a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds–peaking at 20,000 pounds in future WT models. The four-corner air ride adaptive suspension keeps you comfortable while gliding through the terrain, as the suspension automatically adjusts to the road. The height of the Silverado is also adjustable to make getting in and out easy. Super Cruise driver assist technology will provide the freedom to drive hands-free on 200,000 miles of compatible roads across the United States and Canada.
