Ford is the No. 2-selling electric vehicle brand in the US thanks to strong demand for the Mustang Mach-E, which turns on dealer lots in just 10 days
DEARBORN, Mich., November 30, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Ford made 150,000 of themth Mustang Mach-E since production began nearly two years ago, a significant milestone as the company targets EV production at a rate of 600,000 annually by late 2023 and more than 2 million annually in 2026.
Almost all of the Mustang Mach-E’s growth to date has come from customers replacing an internal combustion vehicle with an electric one – 8 in 10 US customers and 9 in 10 European customers – proving that Ford is making the electric vehicle that meets a wide range of customer needs.
“When we put the pony in this Mustang, we knew we were going to have skeptics. What we didn’t quite know at the time was how popular this car would be,” said Darren Palmer, vice president, Electric Vehicle Programs, Ford Model e. “I love seeing the Mustang Mach-E cars on the road and talking to customers, and I’m seeing more of them.”
The Mustang Mach-E is available in 37 countries worldwide for 2023, up from 22 in the car’s first year. New Zealand, Brazil and Argentina are among the latest markets added to the Mustang Mach-E stable. The global growth comes as Ford upgrades the Cuautitlán Stamping and Assembly Plant – which built 150,000th vehicle – to support more customers.
“The plant is buzzing,” said Deborah Manzano, Ford’s director of manufacturing. “There’s a new battery line, a new chassis line, an additional assembly line, we’ve literally expanded the space to make more Mustang Mach-E cars. We also recently added a new paint shop. Nothing is standing still!”
The Mustang Mach-E continues to prove its popularity winning awards and accolades including 2021 North American Utility of the Year, Edmunds’ Top-Rated Luxury Electric Vehicle and more.
