New Delhi: ETEnergiworld Annual Gas Conclave, a premier industry event in the oil and gas sector, has successfully concluded with the participation of around 300 top domestic and global industry leaders, including officials from ministries, PSUs, state utilities, private sector CEOs, financial agencies and researchers, among others.
The two-day event, the largest such initiative on the oil and gas industry by The Economic Times, was held this year at the Taj Palace Hotel from December 5-6, 2022. It is a premium platform for industry leaders to discuss and debate some of the most pressing challenges gas industry, exchange experiences from their domain.
The conclave was organized by ETEnergiworld in partnership with AG&P, Shell, Pipeline Infrastructure Ltd, Tubacek, SENSIT Technologies, South Asia Gas Enterprise, Copperleaf, Seros Energi, GarudaUAV, Indian Gas Exchange and Jiotech.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the Conclave as the Chief Guest, Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon’ble Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs said, “I am delighted to address this distinguished gathering at the ETEnergyworld Annual Gas Conclave and Awards 2022 India focused on promoting the use of natural gas as a fuel and raw material in order to increase the share of gas in the primary energy mix from the current level of 6.3 percent to 15 percent by 2030.
In his address, Puri outlined the vision and plan for the growth of the gas sector in the coming years and also congratulated ETEnergiworld for organizing the Annual Gas Awards. “I am very happy to hear that the ETEnergiworld Annual Gas Conclave and Awards will recognize and reward emerging Indian startups working on the energy transition, including clean fuels, carbon capture, energy efficiency and more,” he said.
Apart from Puri, the inaugural session was also addressed by Ashutosh Karnatak, Member, Petroleum & Natural Gas, APTEL and former CMD, GAIL India; Vartika Shukla, Chairman and Managing Director, Engineers India Ltd (EIL) and Anil Razdan, Former Secretary, Ministry of Power and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The first day of the event featured four panel discussions on the topics – Driving Economic Growth and Energy Security through Gas Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty, India’s Gas Infrastructure: Making the Most of the $66 Billion Opportunity, City Gas Distribution: Increasing Progress and Accelerating India’s E&P Potential: What carries the future?.
Keynote speakers in the panel discussions were Pankaj Sharma, Additional Director – D&ES, PPAC; Abhilesh Gupta, MD & CEO, AG&P Pratham; Ajay Sambrani, MD, Tubacek Asia Pacific; Ashish Agarwal, MD & CEO, Seros Energi; DK Sarraf, former chairman, PNGRB; SP Singh, CEO, Adani Total Private Ltd; VK Mishra, Director (Finance), Petronet LNG; Ashu Shinghal, ED, GAIL; Raman Chadha, CEO, GAIL Gas; Sanjay Kumar, MD, IGL; SK Jha, ED & Head – CGD, IOC; Suresh Manglani, CEO, Adani Gas; Hardeep Rai, CEO, THINK Gas; and Dilip Pattanaik, ED – Natural Gas, HPCL.
Other keynote speakers on the first day included Manas Kumar Sharma, Director (Research and Development), Oil India; C Lakma Reddy, ADG (Research), Directorate General of Hydrocarbons; Vinod Tahiliani, CEO, India Gas Solutions and Vice President – India Growth, Integrated Gas & Power, bp; Pankaj Kalra, CEO, Essar Oil & Gas Exploration & Production; and Elango Pandarinathan, MD, Hindustan Petroleum Exploration Company.
These discussions saw top industry leaders agree on the key role of gas in the energy basket. “Gas plays a vital role for the country’s energy security and the country needs to invest heavily in gas infrastructure development,” said Abhilesh Gupta, MD & CEO, AG&P Pratham.
Tubacek’s Sambrani said, “The current volatility in the global energy market is also an opportunity for India. To achieve a GDP growth rate of over 7-8 percent, the country’s energy needs will be huge.” Ashish Agarwal of Seros shares the same sentiment and says emerging economies are energy guzzlers. “India needs every form of energy, be it renewable or fossil fuels, but at the same time we have to take care of responsible development,” he said.
Other industry leaders also expressed optimism about the sector’s growth prospects. “Established CGD companies like IGL already have a lot of infrastructure and are in a much better position than new CGD companies, but right now we are seeing government and industry sentiment developing towards positive change for the sector,” THINK Gas CEO Hardeep Rai said .
Other Key events on the first day included special addresses by Rohit Pandey, Country Manager India, Copperleaf Technologies, apart from two fireside talks with Akhil Mehrotra, MD & CEO, Pipeline Infrastructure and DP Srivastava, Distinguished Fellow, Vivekananda International Foundation and former India ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The biggest attraction of the first day was the evening ceremony of the Annual Gas Awards, which began with a special address by the president of the jury, Anil Razdan. The awards presented awards to multiple entities in 10 selected categories, including individual achievements and gas companies. The awards ceremony closed the curtains on the first day.
Day 2 (December 6) began with a keynote address by VK Saraswat, Member, Niti Aaiog on the policy prescriptions for making India’s dream of developing a hydrogen economy a reality. In his speech, Saraswat laid the policy foundation for a new green hydrogen ecosystem in India and also shared a perspective on the technology and funding avenues. This was followed by three exclusive panel discussions on the topics – Hydrogen in India’s Energy Mix: Reaching 5 MT by 2030; LNG Market Outlook – Time to Reassess; and Decarbonisation of hard-to-reduce sectors: new fuels, old aspirations.
Other key events on the second day included individual presentations and addresses by Daniele Fogale, EMEA Director, SENSIT; Deepak Mehta, Head – Business Development, Indian Gas Exchange; and Anit Mishra, Vice President, and Saroj Chelluri, Director – Strategy and Planning, GarudaUAV Soft Solutions.
