Glasgow’s Elphingrove has now opened back up after being closed for another day due to technical problems.
The winter attraction, billed as the UK’s biggest ice rink, welcomed hundreds of people on its opening day on Thursday.
Elfingrove transformed the grounds of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum into a winter wonderland – complete with a toddler rink for children under five.
However, organizers Etison announced on Friday that the rink had to be temporarily closed due to technical problems with the marquee.
The attraction reopened on Saturday, November 26.
Ollie Norman, CEO of itison and producer of Elfingrove, said he was “absolutely disappointed” that the closure had to be made on Friday.
He continued: “This situation was completely out of our control, and for the sake of the health and safety of our team and our wonderful guests, we had to cancel the show.”
He explained that the onsite production team had noticed an issue with the rink’s marquee roof – the marquee company and engineers had fixed the problem and put in place contingencies to “make sure it doesn’t happen again”.
Mr Norman said: “We are very sorry for those disappointed today. It really breaks our hearts to read the comments from families so excited to come and we know words won’t fix anything.
“We hope you all come along and make snow magic with us another day, we can’t wait to welcome you to Elfingrove.”
