DANNY Ford described it as a “huge relief” to see Pirates record a double under his stewardship and added: “The club is on cloud nine.”
The Poole supporter watched as his charges sealed SGB Championship glory earlier this month, to join the Knockout Cup for the second consecutive year.
Pirates suffered a blip in mid-season results during their 2022 campaign.
But with their place in the league play-offs booked, Ford insisted he felt his side looked “unbeatable” when it really mattered.
He told the Daily Echo: “Midway through this season, I was thinking ‘maybe this is the time I have to get used to thinking okay, we’re not going to win everything this year’.
“I have never been in such a situation. I was kind of bracing myself for it.
“Once I got it, the guys had other plans, did a U-turn. Our fortunes changed and we looked unbeatable.
“If you put this team against the team that won the title last season, it’s going to be one hell of a showdown.
“Personally. It was a huge relief to bring home the titles. There is enormous pressure to lead this great club because by nature, it is a club built on success.
“Over the last few years we’ve delivered on all of that and the rides have been absolutely incredible.”
He added: “The club is on cloud nine at the moment.
“We knew at some stage there was going to be something we couldn’t win but we won’t stop trying. That’s the mentality we have.
“This year, we had a great atmosphere around the stadium and the pits. The supporters were really behind the team from the beginning.
“Even though we had a mid-season blip, they’ve been really good. I’ve seen travel support at some meets this year like it was back in the day.
“The club is at a high moment – with our supporter-base and sponsors.”
The Pirates are set to compete again in the second tier in 2023.
