The UK to Ireland market is huge. In the weekend of 3rd-9th December, according to the latest OAG data, with 914, it is the sixth largest international country pair in the world by departure flights. It can only be beaten by UK-Italy, US-Canada, US-Mexico, UK-Spain, Germany-Spain and India-UAE.
UK-Ireland: 3rd-9th December
Separated by the Irish Sea, there are 914 departure flights (double for total services) and 49 routes per week checked between the UK and Ireland, with between 117 and 153 flights per day. While that’s a significant number, it’s ‘only’ 88% of the 1,044 available in a comparable week in 2019. The market still has a way to go until pre-pandemic services fully recover, let alone cross.
There are 150,620 departure seats for sale this week (again, double that if you like), with peak day (Friday, December 9th) over 25,000 in each direction. Put another way, there are an average of 1,500 UK-Ireland seats for sale Every working hour On the 9th.

Airlines
It’s no surprise that Ryanair and Aer Lingus collectively account for nearly nine out of every ten UK-Ireland flights, as shown below. For more clarity, I’ve broken down the operating airlines for Aer Lingus and BA. Ryanair itself operates almost all flights rather than Ryanair UK and Lauda, I did not for this carrier.

22 UK airports, 5 in Ireland
Over the seven days examined, 22 UK airports are nonstop across the Irish Sea. Almost one in six services is to London Heathrow, thanks to British Airways and Aer Lingus, as shown in the top 10 airports table later in the article. In contrast, Bournemouth and Guernsey have the joint-fewest, at just 2 weekly.
As Heathrow, Gatwick, City, Luton and Stansted all have flights to Ireland, the UK capital accounts for around half of the total if cities are considered rather than airports.
With 720 departing flights, Dublin accounts for almost eight out of ten UK services. They are followed by Cork (94), Shannon (50), Knock (36) and Kerry (14).
