University of Kentucky true freshman defensive lineman Deon Walker was voted to the Associated Press second-team All-Southeastern Conference, it was announced Monday. He represents just three freshmen along with Ole Miss’ Quinshawn Judkins and Louisiana State’s Harold Perkins and is the first UK freshman named to the AP All-SEC team since Austin McGinnis’ first-team honor in 2014.
A 6-foot-6, 330-pounder from Detroit, Walker finished the regular season with 39 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, five quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and one forced fumble. He has also been named to the Pro Football Focus True Freshman All-America Team and was recently named SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week for his role in UK’s 26-13 win over in-state rival Louisville on Nov. 28.
Additionally, he was a Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award semifinalist and a midseason True Freshman All-American by multiple outlets including Walker Athletic, 247 Sports, On3.com and College Football News.
Walker and the Wildcats travel to Nashville to take on Iowa in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl on New Year’s Eve. The game, which will be televised nationally by ABC, kicks off at noon ET (11 p.m. central time in Nashville) at Nissan Stadium.
All Kentucky football season ticket holders and eligible K Fund donors who have made a Music City Bowl request during the priority request period (Nov. 16 – Dec. 1) will receive tickets. Tickets ordered during the priority request period will be allocated to the best seat locations in Kentucky’s official allotment and assigned in order of this week’s K Fund Priority Point Ranking.
After all priority requests and tickets are held to meet internal requirements, tickets are sold in Kentucky’s official allotment. Public tickets are available now directly through MusicCityBowl.com and Ticketmaster.com. Kentucky will be on the east side of Nissan Stadium. Student ticket information for the Music City Bowl will be available online at UKFootballTix.com on Sunday evening.
