Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government has insisted there will be no return to the 1970s when Britain was cast by allies as the “sick man of Europe” with three-day weeks, energy shortages and rampant inflation. But as ministers urged the public not to panic about shopping, some of Britain’s biggest supermarkets warned that truck driver shortages could result before Christmas.

Visa U-turn

The British government is now expected to ease visa rules for truck drivers to help tackle supply-chain problems. The government said late Friday that it was “looking at temporary measures to avoid any immediate problems.” He said any action he took would be “very strictly time-bound”.
