At the same time, seeing modifications to a Mustang in the US is about as common as ants at a summer picnic. However, a UK tuner proves that reworking one of these epic muscle cars is not an American affair.
In a YouTube video, the Motorsport & Performance channel upgraded the new Mustang Mach 1. Presenter Teddy explained the goal of trying to give the car increased track capabilities while keeping the sun. -day driving characteristics.
A Quick Look at the Massive Upgrade
Rather than cover the thorough step-by-step details of the upgrade process, the video offers the highlights, starting with dual-rate springs for a better center of gravity. We also see the addition of parts to eliminate the wheel hop common to the S550 Mustang.
These parts strengthen the stock-independent rear suspension subframe for faster cornering and sharper handling. Aggressive looks are part of the S550 Mustang’s design, even for the base model. But what’s the point of making changes under the skin without telling the world that this is no ordinary Mustang? Exterior changes include the addition of a dual-level front splitter, new wheels, and a larger rear wing with a Gurney flap. In other words, they are building their own version of the Mach 1 with the Handling Package.

Confirming The Final Results
However, all this work really comes down to how the rubber meets the road. In other words, engine output. Before the upgrades, dynamometer testing showed this Ford was delivering around 400 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque (measured at the wheels). After the improvements, the Mach 1 pushed things to 444 horsepower and 381 lb-ft of torque.
The newer stock Mach 1 is factory rated for 470-480 ponies, depending on the model year. But that figure is based on horsepower measurements at the flywheel. Wheel-based dyno testing typically yields 15-20% less than factory ratings. With that in mind, the 44 hp increase is impressive nonetheless.
