• Now through Sunday, December 4, the Brandywine River Museum of Art in person Critter Sale will take place at the Chadds Ford Historical Society. It’s part of the society’s effort to give back to fellow non-profit neighbors. Sale hours are 10 am to 5 pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 1-3, and 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday, December 4. Also on tap this weekend, Sanderson Museum curator Chuck Ulmann will be at CFHS selling greeting cards and ornaments to benefit Sanderson, and the Historical Society will be selling bread baked in the beehive oven at the John Chads House. The society’s museum shop will also be open.
• The West Chester Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting are back after a two-year hiatus due to the reaction to COVID. The borough’s 26-foot holiday tree will be lit before the parade at 6:30 pm this Friday, December 2, on the steps of the Chester County Courthouse, with performances by the West Chester University Gospel Choir and the West Chester Area School District Elementary Honors Choir. Featuring 11,000 lights and 1,500 silver metallic ornaments, the tree includes a quarter mile of gold festooning and 180 feet of white garland. The parade begins on Market Street at New Street, where it heads east on Matlack Street and completes its one-mile loop west on Gay Street in the heart of West Chester’s historic district.
• The Delaware Theater Company opens its new season on December 9 with a production of ART, a French comedy about friends who fall out after one of them buys an expensive painting. The overriding question is: Is it art? The show will run from December 9-17. Ticket prices are $30 to $45 and are available here.
• How do animals survive the winter? That’s what to explore in Mt. Cuba Center on Saturday, December 3, from 1-3 pm Join Leah Brooks, the public program assistant of Mt. Cuba, in the program How Animals Spend the Winter, as he emphasizes the strategies and adaptations native animals use to survive the winter.
