VIJAYAWADA: Ahead of National Energy Conservation Day on December 14, the state government has decided to organize week-long celebrations to mark the occasion. Power Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy held a meeting with departmental officials and directed them to ensure that the program is successfully implemented across the state.
The Minister explained that the Government is committed to the uninterrupted supply of electricity in the country while simultaneously conserving energy. He further asserted that the country is determined to achieve excellence in the field of power systems.
Explaining the activities planned for the National Energy Conservation Week-2022, Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K Vijayanand informed the minister about various awareness programs planned during the week, which will duly involve farmers, industrial organisations, NGOs, self-help groups and students.
AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) has planned to conduct energy conservation rally, workshop on energy efficiency technologies, e-vehicles, energy conservation building codes (ECBC) among other activities. The program will terminate with the help function.
Peddireddi explained that the government has decided to improve power generation capacity through conventional and renewable energy generation projects, in addition to promoting energy conservation and efficiency programs across the state.
“The government believes that energy efficiency programs are key to the development of the state, because they would strengthen energy security, reduce reliance on coal, oil and gas imports by reducing energy demand, promote the sustainability of the power sector and overall economic growth,” the minister said.
Decline in electricity demand could also limit the demand for electricity generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure, he said and directed APSECM to take an active role in demonstrating the government’s achievements in energy conservation and environmental protection. Pediredi also directed officials to ensure participation of all stakeholders and massive participation of students and self-help groups.
