One of the four Japanese companies to be in the smart city developed by Reliance Industries Ltd near Gurugram, it has laid the groundwork for a medical device unit.

“Model Economic Township Limited (MET City), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), is developing a world-class Greenfield Smart City near Gurugram, Haryana,” billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s company said in a statement.

MET City is a Japanese Industrial Estate (JIT) and houses four leading Japanese companies in its integrated industrial city.

“Nihon Kohden, one of Japan’s 4 companies and a medical device manufacturer, recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for its plot in MET City,” the statement said.

“This Nihon Kohdena facility will be their largest manufacturing facility in India and will further enhance MET City’s position as a leading location for companies to set up in Haryana and North India.

Panasonic, Denso and T-Suzuki are other Japanese companies in MET City.

“With 400 industrial customers, a walk-to-work master plan and world-class infrastructure, MET City is one of the fastest growing greenfield smart cities in North India today,” said SV Goyal, CEO, MET City

“Being a Japanese industrial city, we are very happy that more Japanese companies are coming to us and choosing MET City as their partner in India.” MET City’s plug-n-play infrastructure is an added advantage for any company that comes to us for their requirements,” he added.

Vaibhav Mittal, Vice President and Head of Business Development, MET City, said that efforts will be made to bring more and more Japanese companies to MET City and make it one of the most sought-after business cities of North India.

Kentaro Kusano, managing director, Nihon Kohden India Pvt Ltd, said the new 8,900 square meter hematology analyzer reagent factory will be built on 16,135 square meters of land and will be almost four times the size of the current plant in Gujarat.

“This facility marks an important milestone for our commitment to growing our business in India and positions Nihon Kohden well to realize our vision for India – to be a trusted partner and service provider to improve healthcare in the country,” he said.

MET City (METL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance, which is developing a world-class smart city on over 8,000 acres of land at Jhajjar near Gurugram, Haryana.

The project has already completed the main infrastructure which includes power infrastructure including a 220 KV substation developed by MET City, water treatment plant, water network, extensive road network and extensive landscaping.
