Welcome to the 461st edition of Android Apps Weekly. Here are the headlines from last week.
- Google Messages got a new feature this week. It has brought the ultimate trick for group chats. This is a very good thing because communication is very important these days. This feature is in the beta version of the app, so we expect the full version to come soon.
- South Dakota has banned the use of TikTok for all state employees. Again, the state is urging other states to follow suit. TikTok is often embroiled in data sharing controversies. The governor of South Dakota has decided not to collect data on his employees. Click the link for more information.
- Google took another potshot at Apple for iMessage this week. Google has recently released positive comments about RCS and is pushing Apple to use the technology again. We hope Apple listens, but maybe not. Google has compared Apple’s approach to shipping in the 1990s, which is pretty cool. Since we’re on the subject, a new app is trying to allow Android users to actually use iMessage without an iPhone. We tried it, but it needs a lot of work.
- Spotify and YouTube Music released their latest content of the year this week. Spotify’s Wrapped is released on November 30th, and you can access it now if you have Spotify. Spotify also includes a music category on top of its regular stats and content. YouTube Music Recap was released on November 29th and, in addition to some rollout players, features such as Google Photos integration. Anyone with a music service can watch it now. - Google announced the winners of the 2022 Google Play awards this week. Winners include Dream by Wombo, Apex Legends Mobile, and BeReal. George RR Martin’s book Fire & Blood is a best-selling book and “I’m Glad My Mom Died” by Jennette McCurdy is the best-selling audiobook. Click the link to see the winners and runners-up.
The Most High in Secret

Eminence in Shadow is a new RPG from Crunchyroll. It is based on the anime and light novel of the same name. It has something to do with anime and light novels, so it’s something fans of anime might want to play. However, it’s presented in a way that people who don’t know anything can enjoy. In terms of mechanics, it’s an RPG through and through. You call out words to level up, then use them to continue the game. The combat is simple, with few buttons. Players are just trying to hit combos to do big damage. We wish we could say more, but the game had some problems at launch that the developers are sorting out. Wait a week and this will be more stable.
Lalitham Notification Widget

Lalitham Notification Widget is a widget that shows you notifications. Helpful, so you don’t miss notifications, and filter notifications too. So, you only see what you want. You create the widget, select the apps you want to see ads on, and the widget shows you those notifications. There are different ways to do it. The developer offers several features, such as the use of a complete widget for YouTube or podcast ads, so you will not miss an upload from your favorite creators. In any case, the app performed well in our tests, and there are some Reddit sections with responsiveness and interaction. It’s niche, but still good.
Tom talks Time Rush

Talking Tom Time Rush is the latest game in the popular Talking Tom franchise. This is a runner style game, similar to Talking Tom Gold Rush. In terms of mechanics, this is normal. You run along the path while avoiding obstacles and collecting items. You use things to unlock things that help you progress further. There are also upgrades, cars, and clothes for players to find and unlock. It’s simple, family friendly, and beautiful. All in all, it’s not a bad choice for those who regularly play mobile games with their children.
Pivot: Time View

Pivot: Time Tracker is a simple tracking app. You enter what you spend your time on and then see charts to see how you’re spending your time. From there, you can change things to spend more time doing what you want and less time doing what you don’t. It works by allowing you to create a list of things you do. Then, when you do them, you open the app, select the activity, and tell how long you did it. The app generates reports based on your input. You can use it for small things or for your whole life, it’s up to you. It is also free as of the time of this writing. The app hasn’t been out for long, but it has some promise.
The King of Fighters
Price: Play for free
King of Fighters Arena is a fighting game. He is also struggling to define what he wants. It has fighting powers except for many free players. However, they are not the traditional power that fighting game players know and love. There’s also a gacha style with an RPG style level, so you can’t really master your way to victory all the time. So things like online PvP can feel a little out of control if you end up with a bad matchup. The game is not bad. The controls are great, the graphics are cool, and there’s a lot to do. However, we don’t know if this is an RPG gacha or a fighting game at this point, and the developers are still working on the first gameplay bugs. It has power, but we don’t know how to shake it.
