The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh on Saturday presented the ICAB National Award to a total of 36 listed and unlisted entities in 16 different categories for the best presented annual reports in 2021.
Categories include public sector banks, private sector banks, financial services sector, manufacturing, power and energy sector, infrastructure and construction, insurance, diversified holdings, communication and information technology, public sector, non-governmental organizations, service sector, agriculture, corporate governance, integrated coverage and overall winner.
In addition to recognizing first, second and third place in each category, 17 subjects received commendations for achieving the minimum score threshold.
Among all the winners, Bank Asia Limited emerged as the overall winner.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi as the chief guest presented the awards at an event held that day at the Pan Pacific Hotel Sonargaon in the capital Dhaka.
Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, Chairman of Bangladesh Securities Commission Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam and Chairman of Financial Reporting Council Hamid Ullah Bhuiyan attended the program as special guests.
President of ICAB, dr. Shahadat Hossain, gave a welcome speech, and Chairman of the Commission for the Audit of Published Accounts and Reports Mohamed Humayun Kabir spoke about the BPA award process.
During the year, ICAB-RCPAR received annual reports from 88 entities. The award for the agricultural category could not be considered due to scores below the threshold by the participating entities.
From the winning companies, ICAB will nominate the three best annual reports in each award category for next year’s SAFA BPA competition in recognition of their excellence in financial disclosure.
An 11-member jury panel chaired by former Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman reviewed the recommended list of winners of the ICAB National Award for Best Presented Annual Reports, Integrated Reporting and Corporate Governance Disclosures -2021.
Among the awardees, Asia Limited and Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited secured the joint first prize, BRAC Bank Limited became the first runner-up and United Commercial Bank Limited and Mercantile Bank Limited became the joint runners-up in the private banking sector category. Jamuna Bank Limited and Southeast Bank Limited received certificates of merit.
In the financial services sector category, IDLC Finance Limited won the first prize, Bangladesh Finance Limited won the first prize while IPDC Finance Limited won the second prize. DBH Finance Corporation Limited and Lanka Bangla Finance Limited received certificates of merit.
British American Tobacco Bangladesh Limited won the first prize, Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC won the first prize while Reckitt Benckiser BD Limited won the second prize in the manufacturing category. Merico Bangladesh Limited, RAK Ceramics BD Limited and Premier Cement Mills Limited received certificates of merit.
Summit Power Limited and United Power Gen Distribution Company Limited received certificates of merit in the power sector category.
Eastern Housing Limited received a certificate of merit in the infrastructure and construction category.
In the insurance sector category, Green Delta Insurance Limited became the first runner-up, Reliance Insurance Limited the second runner-up and Citi General Insurance Company Limited the third runner-up. Peoples Insurance Company Limited received a certificate of merit.
In the Communications and IT category, Robi Akiata Limited became the first prize winner and Grameenphone Limited became the first runner-up.
ACI Limited received a Certificate of Merit in the Diversified Holdings category.
In the category of public sector entities, Infrastructure Development Co Limited came first, Investment Corporation of Bangladesh second runner-up and Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Limited second runner-up.
BRAC secured the first prize, SAJIDA Foundation and Center for Community Development became joint first runners-up, and Society for Social Services and Shakti Foundation for Disadvantaged Women became joint second runners-up in the NGO category.
Unikue Hotel and Resorts Limited received a certificate of merit in the service sector category.
In the corporate governance category, Bank Asia Limited emerged as the first prize winner with Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited and IDLC Finance Limited as joint first runners-up and Lanka Bangla Finance Limited, British American Tobacco Bangladesh Limited and Mercantile Bank Limited as runners-up. BRAC Bank Limited was recognized for its merit.
In the integrated reporting category, IDLC Finance Limited and Bank Asia Limited became joint first prize winners, Shahajalal Islami Bank Limited and British American Tobacco Bangladesh Limited became joint first runners-up and Mercantile Bank Limited became second runners-up. LankaBangla Finance Limited received Certificate of Merit.
In the public sector banks category, Janata Bank Limited and Sonali Bank Limited received certificates of merit.
