Update: Our second spy shot source tells us there’s a lot more to see here than meets the eye in these spy photos. Images captured by our other source show an F-150 that is more covered than the one in the image at the top of this post, suggesting that the uncovered elements seen above are an attempt in the wrong direction .
It’s highly likely that Ford is hiding a new and refreshed grille and a revised headlight design under the heavy camouflage seen in the spy photos from our second spy shot source. We’ll put these new photos in a gallery below for you to scroll through. Of course, there’s always the chance that Ford has changed very little as depicted in the original spy shots. Spy shots of the facelifted and refreshed Ford F-150 have surfaced, and the design changes look minimal and in line with a typical refresh so far. Most likely, the updated F-150 will be released for the 2024 model year. Ford launched the completely redesigned truck for the 2021 model year, putting it on track for a timely mid-cycle refresh.
From what we can see in these spy shots, most of the front end is covered. However, the lower front bumper doesn’t have any wrap on it, and it shows a tweaked design at the bottom. The grille looks a lot like today’s F-150, and we can say the same for the headlight design. However, this may be an attempt in the wrong direction, as new spy photos show a covered grille and headlight setup that may be hiding the changes. Also, since Ford covered up most of the bumper, hood and fenders, we suspect that there may have been some minor changes made to these areas as a difference to the current truck.
The back is noticeably more interesting than the front, and it’s what we don’t see that’s more intriguing. The Ford has a tailgate completely covered in a heavy sheet of camo. There were some access curtains, but we couldn’t see anything going on under them. Maybe Ford is working on a trick tailgate that it wants to keep secret. Both GM and Ram offer optional and unique takes on the traditional tailgate, but Ford hasn’t included anything in this space beyond the “Man Step.”
A new taillight design can also be seen in these spy shots, as Ford’s camo doesn’t completely cover the lights here. It’s not an exact replica of the F-150 Lightning’s tails, but the look certainly reminds us of the electric truck’s light design with this little glimpse. The last oddity we point out is the “Man Eaters Limo” window sticker, which is something you don’t usually see on a manufacturer’s camouflaged test vehicle.
