Ford has introduced a new Platinum trim for the Ranger that slots in between the Wildtrack and Raptor with more premium looks and features, available in Europe, the UK, and Australia. Like the closely related Ford Everest Platinum SUV, the pickup comes with excellent standard equipment and is offered exclusively with the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel.
Predictably, the new trim is exclusively available in the double-cab bodystyle. It is visually distinguished by the unique chrome-infused grille, the Platinum lettering on the bonnet, the standard Matrix LED headlights, the 20-inch alloy wheels, the silk chrome accents, and the version-specific Equinox Bronze exterior shade available as an option. Inside, we see plenty of premium features for the segment, including quilted leather upholstery, faux wood accents on the dashboard, a heated steering wheel, and heated and ventilated front seats with 10-way power adjustment and memory function for the driver. .
The dashboard has a closed shelf and upper glovebox, which differs from lower Ford Ranger trims. Furthermore, the Platinum emblem can be seen on the glovebox, seats and floor mats. In terms of technology, a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch touchscreen for infotainment are also standard, along with a B&O premium sound system.
The pickup is exclusively offered with a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel producing 247 hp (184 kW / 250 PS) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque in Australia, or 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS) in UK and Europe. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic gearbox and Ford’s electronically controlled full-time 4WD system.
The 2023 Ford Ranger Platinum is available to order in Europe, the UK, and Australia with first deliveries expected in May 2023. In the UK, the Platinum costs £44,400 ($53,326) excluding VAT, which is £5,050 ($6,064) more expensive than the Wildtrak with the same engine/gearbox combination, and £3,900 ($4,683) cheaper than the Raptor. In Australia, the Platinum costs AU $76,990 (US $51,927) which is AU $5,800 (US $3,992) more expensive than the Wildtrack and AU $9,800 (US $6,610) cheaper than the grumpy Raptor with the most powerful twin-turbo petrol V6 and heavy-duty suspension.
