The Ford F-150 is THE pickup truck. That’s not to say it’s definitely the best, but it’s the most popular of its kind ever made. The age of electric vehicles is upon us, and yet, the Ford F-150 is a significant player with its latest iteration, the Ford F-150 Lightning. While staying true to the other F-150 models, the Lightning’s interior is a bit more refined, and looks like a million bucks.
What does the interior of the Ford F-150 Lightning look like?
Ford didn’t completely redesign the Lightning’s interior to look like the Enterprise. In fact, at first glance, you might think it’s just an F-150. However, Ford really classed the joint up a bit.
MotorTrend calls the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning interior “fancy and functional.” While MT says the interior is almost identical to the rest of the Ford F-150 interior, one major update is the addition of a massive infotainment screen. If it feels a little (a lot) like the screen of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, well, it’s because it is that screen.
MotorTrend reviewers note that while they typically don’t like “soft” buttons, Ford has done a good job with them. Climate control, menus, music, and more are said to be easy to adjust, and switching between menus is simple. Cleaver features such as automatically displaying the locations of charging locations, sharp graphics, and a fast processor make the user experience feel luxurious.
Not for nothing, the size of the display is quite impressive and adds another level of luxury, giving the dressed Ford F-150 cabin an upscale feel.
Are the Ford F-150 Lightning seats comfortable?
Ford made some changes in this department for the Lightning. The front seats can now recline, allowing the driver and passenger to sleep while charging. MotorTrend praises its cleverness but notes that it’s not the most comfortable position. To recline the seat fully, the rear seats have to be raised, and your knees are still bent at 90 degrees. Overall, MotorTrend says the F-150 Lightning’s seats are “comfortable, supportive, and spacious.”
The rear seats offer plenty of headroom and legroom for passengers.
Is the interior of the Ford F-150 Lightning better than the Rivian R1T?
MotorTrend admits that the Rivian’s interior is a more luxurious experience, as it should be, given the higher starting price. However, MT reviewers chose the Lightning as the overall better buy option because the interior is still nice while offering more value than the pricy Rivian.
Despite the F-150’s normal interior and the Lightning’s interior being nearly identical, there’s no doubt that some of the interior upgrades Ford made to the electric version put the Lightning ahead of its gassy cousin.
