The premiere of 1923the most anticipated Yellowstone prequel, took place at the Hollywood American Legion Post 43 last night. Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, Aminah Nieves, Sebastian Roché and Marley Shelton are among the stars who spoke to Deadline on the red carpet teasing their characters in the Paramount+ series.
Ford played Jacob Dutton, the patriarch of the Yellowstone ranch. The actor said his rancher character has “unique circumstances with a unique personal history.”
“It’s the story of what it took to survive, for that person to survive in a complex context of morality and it’s a juicy, juicy story and I love it,” he added.
Mirren played Cara Dutton, Ford’s wife in the Western drama. The Oscar-winning actor sees his character as an “equal partner” in Jacob’s Ford.
“We are presenting a couple that [in a] relationship [that] when the time is gone it becomes a partnership,” she said. “And so, they’re a couple as much as anything, of course, they’re a couple but they’re really kind of equal partners where you have to deal with that kind of environment.”
Aminah Nieves plays Teonna Rainwater and at the premiere event, she said that being on this show traumatized her but ultimately it was important to start the healing process for herself and her family.
Sebastian Roché fell into familiar territory in 1923 as Father Renaud and during the premiere, he recalled some of his previous performances related to religious figures.
Marley Shelton plays Emma Dutton and she talks about what her character’s role is on the farm.
1923, the next installment of the Dutton family origin story, will introduce a new generation of Duttons led by patriarch Jacob (Ford) and matriarch Cara (Mirren). The series explores the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic droughts, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plagued the mountain west, and the Duttons who called it home.
The series premieres Sunday, December 18 on Paramount+ in the US and Canada while it will be available in the UK and Australia on Monday, December 19.
